1 - Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh: Boogiepop and Others

Do you have a dream? Sadly, I have no such thing. But the boys and girls in this story all have their own desires. They fret; unable to reach them, or launch themselves headlong towards that goal. Some remain uncertain what it is they truly want, others chase a desire they can never really hope to achieve, or unwittingly give others courage with their unconscious optimism.

This story is told in pieces. It’s a very creepy story, and a little bit sad.

…Mm? Who am I? My name is Boogiepop.

Winner of the Game Novel Grand Prize. Kouhei Kadono brings you five unusual stories of one uncanny event.

4 - Boogiepop in the Mirror:
Pandora

Do you believe in destiny? Is it true that our will has nothing to do with the world's continual revolution? This is the story of a group of 6 boys and girls. They all possess the strange power of being able to see the future ahead of them, and they only use this ability among themselves. They are innocent; They have no responsibility. And yet.... “This is… Boogiepop?” When the foresight of these six made this visage of me appear, the wheel of fate started turning.

5 - Boogiepop Overdrive:
The King of Distortion

"I am The King of Distortion, and I reign over the distortion in depths of your heart. Until I can turn your distortion to gold, I will remain at your side." February 14th, St. Valentine's Day. Everyone assembled at an event to see the Moon Temple, a grotesque building towering over the center of the city, would soon be wrapped up in a constantly distorting world. As he whispers sweet words into everyone's ears, The King of Distortion claims that everything -- including this twisting, distorting world -- is a stairway to heaven. In addition to that, there was another strange shadow mixed into all this. "You finally showed up, huh? Boogiepop…!"

As two beings who dwelt within the hearts of people meet, the curtain rises on this never ending day.

6 - Boogiepop at Dawn

Do you think that world can't be saved? Don't you think there's some way to steer those harsh, bygone days back on track? Or is there nothing we can do, when those days have a dark side to them that we can't see? Isn't it unbearable that the changes in you life are decided by everything that happened before hand? ……This is a story that relates to how I, Boogiepop, was born, but 4 other strange characters make their entrance here as well. They are a detective, a creature that eats people's fear, an author, and an assassin. In a time where they all come into contact with The Fire Witch, the road these 4 follow, was it a mistake you thought couldn't be undone? or just a mere mystery?

Told from 6 grotesque points of view, this is the event that marked the beginning of Boogiepop.

7 - Boogiepop Missing:
The Peppermint Wizard

You’ve probably missed something at some point in your life, haven’t you? Even though it was really, really important, you were so stuck to some foolish pride and so preoccupied with what was right in front of you, that you ended up missing something. Am I wrong? ……This is the story of a magician that’s had to do that kind of thing over and over again. He is talented, successful, and a failure. The road taken by this magician is a stupid, lonely, and lively story of ice cream. That cold, vivid sweetness was an innocent, cruel and sad fairy-tale that, for an instant… yes, it was so fast that even I, Boogiepop, missed it. It was a moment of amusement that connected a clown, a god of death, and those with broken dreams before it melted, disappeared, and was lost in the blink of an eye.

8 - Boogiepop Countdown:
Embryo Erosion

It is said that an egg exists deep within the heart of a single person. This egg, raised while storing someone with no ostensible appearance, is always waiting, day after day, for the moment that someone is born from within its shell. When that shell breaks, possibility that emerges might even stave off myself, Boogiepop, and crush the world. ......And so, the destiny revealed by this egg will, at this point, bring about a single confrontation between one who is already the strongest of his kind, and another who, following this, will shatter that shell. However, the countdown to this fate will steadily tick away until the moment these two meet. It seems as if many will be entangled within this approaching, unavoidable clash for the sake of two individuals, a pinnacle of strength and he who flashes like lightning, as each of them seek their own single way of life. -- Now marks the beginning of the first act to this life or death struggle between those manipulated by unseen thread, all wrapped in the enigma of the Embryo.

9 - Boogiepop Wicked:
Embryo Eruption

Don'cha ever think that this thing we call the world is just so wicked? We're all just trying to live our lives, but you just never know when you'll have the rug pulled out from under you, ya know?

I am Embryo. I exist to break the shell within the human heart. Whether they like it or not, whomever touches me has their excess potential dragged outta them. The result? Disaster... The disaster happening right this second is an invitation to the rematch between "The Strongest" and "Inazuma." Now is the time for the conclusion to their duel of fates. The city will shake, roaring flames will rise--and then, this wicked Boogiepop guy has the nerve to interfere with destiny...

I wonder what awaits at the end of this life and death struggle--with this strange embryo at the center of it all—whether that end be hell, the future, or even—

10 - Boogiepop Paradox:
Heartless Red

What is an "enemy of the world", I wonder? I mean, if we're talking about the kinds of people that just think about dangerous stuff, then the world is already full of enemies, isn't it?

I, Kirima Nagi, don't really get that sort of complicated shit. But I feel like that Boogiepop guy is walking that boundary between good and evil, or something like it... And so is the eccentric girl I happened to meet around my middle school, Kurenai Akemi. I feel like she had been straddling both sides of that line too. She feared no evil, and was undaunted by good--a sort of "Vermilion Hurt."

Victims who's lives were stopped, an unpredictable adversary that could attack from anywhere--Will Kirima Nagi wage a questionable war against this idle crisis? And, when that apocalyptic omen looming behind that girl--that bitter love--turns to "Heartless Red," What will her decision be?
